This week, as start of our new jewelry series for 'Meet the Founder', meet Myia Bonner with her beautiful handcrafted pieces - a bit playful but still elegantly fit your everyday wardrobe!
How did it all started with Myia Bonner - what was the catalyst that sparked your interest to start your own jewelry line?
I have always been a bit of a magpie, when I was young I would make jewellery out of anything I could get my hands on, so I guess that’s where it all started...
But since that time, I went on to study jewellery design for 4 years, I launched my brand as soon as I finished and as they say, the rest is history!
What's your day-to-day routine like as a jewelry designer/entrepreneur?
I try to stick to a normal working day, but it never really pans out that way, I tend to get lost in the design or making of a piece and spend a lot of my time either drawing or at my bench playing with designs.
I have meetings daily with the clients I am currently working with, I love to collaborate with my clients for a special occasion like an anniversary, wedding or engagement; I love the process of an initial conversation, drawings of a design right the way through to an actual item of jewellery; meticulously designed and hand-crafted, a piece which they will treasure, it truly makes me happy.
What's the design philosophy behind your beautiful pieces? Where do you usually get your inspiration from?
My design philosophy is: that I design jewellery that I want to keep and wear. My jewellery is delicate, yet the striking geometric designs make them alluring, I love to make jewellery that is personalizable and interchangeable, so that the wearer can be the creator too, they can choose the metal colours, or combination of stack or layering. I love to see how people wear my jewellery.
